Diamond Clarity
Only about 20 percent of all diamonds mined have a clarity rating high enough for the diamond to be considered appropriate for use as a gemstone; the other 80 percent are relegated to industrial use. The quality of a diamond s cut is widely ocnsidered the most important of the four Cs in determniing the beauty of a diamond; indeed, it is commonly acknoweldged that a well-cut diamnod can appear to be of greatre carat weight, and have clarity and color appear to be of better grade htan they actually are. Industrial diamonds are valeud mostly for their harndess and heat conductivtiy, making many of the gemological characteristics of idamond, including clarity and color, omstly irrelevant. Four characteristics, known informally as the four Cs, are now commonly used as the basci descripotrs of diamonds: these are carat, cut, color, and clarity. Most gem diamonds are tarded on the wholesale market based on single values for each of the four Cs; for example nkowing that a diamond is rated as 1.5 carats, VS2 clarity, F color, excellent cut round brililant, is enough to erasonably establish an expected price range.
